Icabob

The Monarch lays its egg underneath a milkweed leaf
(watched by a spider)

This is the monarch butterfly egg

This is about 2 days after the egg hatched

This is after another 3 (or so) days.

Another two days gone
We've named this little guy Icabob.
He now goes through about a leaf a day and soon will start spinning his cocoon.
This is what he looks like this morning and what is left of yesterday's leaf.

Icabob is now safely in his chrysalis.
Note the gold piping on the cocoon.
Jody and her daughters assure me that this is a normal feature on a monarch's cocoon.
(Raising a monarch from egg to butterfly is a tradition here in this household.
A new ~ fascinating ~ experience for me)
Today was Icabob's "coming out" day
